Let loose the Dragon on the Warmongers!
Europe's corruption is heading for an inevitable bust-up.
First question:
What do all Europeans want? Peace and prosperity. Open, honest government. Fair and impartial governance system will bring Peace and undisputed Justice to all.
Do they have it? The European Union is composed of 27 democracies and the Commission is one body that is supposed to make sure that they remain democratic and prosperous. Its ethics and conduct is supposed to be an example to all.
Reality Check
Today the European continent is ripped asunder by an unnecessary war, The economy is broken. The EU’s standing worldwide is declining fast.
Second question:
Big Question. How do you destroy a peace-enhancing, prosperity-making system?
Answer: Let ignorant, egotistical or corrupt politicians distort, damage and try to destroy the very system that brought peace. Not by a big bust but throwing sand in a smooth-running supranational machine.
Ignorance is the most common sand. The innovation of supranational governance brought democracy to European countries that had scarcely known it before the European Community was created. And widespread civil and human rights too.
Who upholds and debates the supranational principles of just, open government today? It is not a word heard in Brussels, and certainly not in a favourable fashion. Yet the treaties defined the Commission as supranational. It is Europe’s foundational principle. Can new members of the Commission today give a disquisition about what supranational means in legal, constitutional terms? Why were candidates not quizzed on this? Instead they give personal opinions to assuage political parties.
This is what Europe’s foundational Treaty of Paris says in its article 9.
The supranational constitutional character brought the longest peace in two millennia. Today the Continent is aflame. Democracy and justice is being undermined from within. It is is getting worse at this moment.
Beware!
The European Community nations — just nine States in 1973 — were already more prosperous in many ways than the USA. Fifty years ago after being ruined by world wars, the Community had already risen to assume leadership as undisputedly the world’s greatest trading power.
Today the EU has 27 Member States. Thus far more prosperous and powerful? Not at all. It has sunk to a third rate world economic power. Its citizens are far from happy.
Third Question
What happened? What are the symptoms and how can Europe change for the better?
The indispensable motor for the European peace system is Honest Governance. It is a trust-builder in all levels of society.
The European peace motor is Openness of the leaders with the people. Parliamentary democracies insisted that deliberations of leaders must be open, and discussed in the open and records of debates must be published. Those who are the internal enemies are those who do not like to let sunlight into their councils.
The means to restitute the power of peace and prosperity? The strongest power is truth.
The Record
On the last day of her first European Commission, President Ursula von der Leyen presented her congratulations to her Spokesperson Eric Mamer. President von der Leyen was not known for her frequent visits to the press room to debate policy with journalists. After presenting the bouquet, she left.
A journalist asked:
Eric, as it is your last midday, let me ask this, what is the question you always wanted to answer, but that has never been asked?
‘I would slightly rephrase that. I would say, {name} one of the thousands of questions, we were always afraid you would ask, and that we prepared for it, and that you did not ask.
But that list is involved, guarded by a dragon, in a cage, in a cavern, which is protected by wild lions, so I would not even try to go there.
So, but thanks for the question.’
And he moved on to the next journalist. The evocation of Lions and a Dragon are significant. For a cave, read an island. They are symbols of the United Kingdom. British citizens were disgusted at the Democratic Deficit that increased over the years. They left.
Has the EU — the politicians’ distorted version of the European Community — ever issued a report on why Britain, the Mother of Parliaments, the defender of Democracy, Propagator of the Magna Carta, wanted to leave? Have they drawn up and listed the lessons from this catastrophic event of a democratic nation leaving what was supposedly the fountain of European democracy?
Not that I know of.
The Schuman Project issued its own report describing the political dirty tricks and illegalities that led to this collapse of democratic trust. Why do the dirty tricks politicians rejoice at the expulsion of the UK? Why do they refuse to let democratic States like Switzerland, Norway and Iceland enter? Guess! Will it help their ancient democracy spread abroad? Who wants to join and why? Money is a major factor for candidate countries, not demands for openness of the institutions.
Then back in the press room something evoked startled amusement.
Another journalist asked:
I have a question which may demand your knowledge of secret councils. As we are moving to a new Commission, I wonder whether there were discussions about Article 17 of the Lisbon Treaties that the number of the Commissioners should be reduced in number according to a formula which has been in the Lisbon Treaties for some time. What sort of discussions go on in preparation for the new Commission?
And also possibly discussions on the non-political, non-party participation of Commissioners — which has been subject to some controversy. The same articles say that the Commission should be independent of all other outside organisations. Maybe you can give us a little bit about what goes on behind the scenes.
Thus a part of the cave was illuminated but very little indeed. The Commission spokesman replied:
I can't. David, honestly, I think the institutional situation is very, very clear. Indeed, as you say, Article 17 determines, defines the number of Commissioners, a formula, et cetera, but it also provides that the European Council can decide to suspend this and to continue having one Commissioner per country. Now, I have absolutely no idea whether there has been or there are or there will be any discussions on this issue. And if you want to ask questions about the Council, I would really recommend that you ask them.
As to the independence of Commissioners. It is indeed fixed by the treaties as well. It does not prohibit them from taking part in meetings with different types of stakeholders. And therefore, it is for the Commissioners to ensure that they respect their obligations in this regard. And that's all I will say.
Thus the Commissioners, all politicians, claim they are their own judge of whether they are independent. Not a judge in an independent court of law. The public stand aghast as the Commissioner-politicians mingle with lobbyists and parties in secret.
More on this topic of self-determined “independence” of political nominees will follow….
As for the Welsh Dragon, the ancient triads of Britain on the ethical principles of government say that three things bring Peace: the voice of Truth, the claims of Justice and the eternal workings of Nature.
The Laws of Nature are inalienable, Justice cries out without cease, Truth is unstoppable.
